Copeland Donahue Theater
Recessed into a steep site, the new Copeland Donahue Theater takes advantage of Claremont’s mild climate and includes interiors that open to the outdoors, as well as a teaching program woven into the site. Performances take place under the canopies of mature oak trees and vertical access is integrated into the hillside to connect the theater with upper level control booths. The theater’s palette includes concrete brick, stucco, wooden windows and doors, and clay tile roofing. Completely flexible lighting and sound systems provide the students the opportunity to learn and experiment in theater technical art, and to put on plays, musicals, movies, readings, and lectures.
